ARCHIVAL APPRAISAL IN THE HUNGARIAN ARCHIVAL LITERATURE In my study, I present and examine the theoretical background of the appraisal of archival records. Unified, and collectively accepted standards of archival appraisal required for collection and its theoretical background has not emergedtill today. In my article, I compare the different opinions from the 1930s to the present in the light of one of the main aspects or issues I have highlighted. I did not separate the opinions on archival value from the professional ideas on selection, because I am convinced that the two are inseparable in the practical reality of archival work as they are mutually assumed.
