" Securitizing ethnic diversity issues means presenting minority groups as existentially threatening and thereby justifying extraordinary political measures. By invo king exceptional circumstances, securitization is fundamentally nondemocratic: the voices of securitized minorities are cancelled out of the democratic process. Indeed, once diversity is successfully securitized, the democratic principles of recognition, equality and participation in the democratic process are overruled. (…) The workshop will initiate a joined up discussion of how the securitizing of ethnic diversity across Europe discloses a common erosion of democratic values and respect for minorities. " ( Jennifer JacksonPreece ) The keynote speech will be delivered by Jennifer JacksonPreece , Associate Professor of the London School of Economics, UK, followed by comments and presentations by Boriss Cilevi č s , Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the C ouncil of Europe; Angéla Kóczé , Assistant Professor of the Wake Forest University, USA; Enik ő Szigeti , Executive Director of the Civic Engagement Movement, Marosvásárhely / Târgu Mure ş , Romania; and Henrik Villadsen , Director of the OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities … Time : Sunday, 10 July 2016, 2 - 6 pm Venue : Tom Lantos Institute, Bérc utca 1315, 1016 Budapest P ROGRAM ME ( http://www.tomlantosinstitute.hu/ ) 1 A szemlében szereplő cikkek nagy része a címre kattintva megjelenik – az MTIhírekhez tartozó linkek egyes esetekben csak a www.mti.hu oldalon elvégzett egyszerű és ingyenes regisztráció után fognak működni
