IOO 1921 As regards Rumania General Pilsudski said that, during the negotiations up till now, the Poles had emphasized the necessity of reconciliation with Hungary. According to him Mr. Take Jonescu is our greatest enemy. The Head of the State does not appear to attach so much importance to the Rumanian Alliance, to which I repeatedly turned the conversation, as the Minister for Foreign Affairs 1 does. General Pilsudski considers that the threat that Hungary might be driven into the arms of the Germans is not an effective means, and it would be much better, in view of the present French mentality, to emphasize that the Hungarians were always decidedly against the Germans and this is what he is going to say point-blank in Paris. Mentioning General Tánczos, the Head of the State declared that if he needs support he will send one of his officers to him. General Pilsudski asked about our representative in Paris, 2 and the Head of the State closed our conversation, which lasted three-quarters of an hour, by assuring us that he will do everything in his power to ameliorate our political situation especially as far as our relations with France are concerned. However, he does not expect any positive success, but hopes that the future will certainly bring it. I expressed my warmest thanks for the goodwill towards our country and for the particularly friendly reception. 3 No. 70. - 51/res.pol The Representative of the Hungarian Government in Warsaw, Count Csekonics, to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Gratz. Yesterday I called on the Minister for War and begged him to support our cause in Paris, which he promised with the greatest readiness. 4 I drew his attention to the presence of General Tánczos in Paris; he promised to try to get in touch with him.
