Résumé Analytical Aspects of Small State Studies The article explores the evolution and the various analytical aspects and frameworks of the discipline of small state studies. While historically the dominant narrative of examining states lacking sufficient resources has been constructed on (neo)realist principles, several modern and post-modern theories and the post-bipolar practise itself demonstrate different aspects and attitudes towards small states, according to which smallness, by itself, doesn't necessary constitute a weakness. The author covers three basic elements of the methodology of small state studies: first, the possible quantitative and qualitative definitions of the concept of 'small state'; second, the article presents the most determinative factors of the foreign policy of such states and the possible hierarchies between them. And last, the possible strategies and behavioural characteristics of small states are also described from the points of view of the major theoretical schools. 2014. ősz 167
