Résumé What Can We Expect from the New German Government in the Fields of European, Foreign, and Security Policy? Basically, the new German government can be expected to carry on with its European-, foreign-, and security policies in terms of continuity. In their bilateral relations, they are increasingly going to support the formerly criticised governments of the partner countries in the EU (both right- and left-wing) till the European parliamentary elections, because the headway of the euro-sceptical powers is a tendency to be prevented for Berlin as well. The Germans' European policy's decision-making is influenced by the dichotomy of the "union method" and the "community method", which seems to divide even the coalition partners. Berlin may be a significant promoter for re-nationalisation of some EU competences and for EU treaty change. The declared activism of the foreign ministry, under social democratic control again, beyond self-profiling, is to match the demands of the partner countries, though it will not cross the red lines set by the public opinion. The German foreign policy is promising itself to be the "advocate" of the Central and Eastern European countries again, but whether it can live up to these expectations, depends on how well it can match this and its increasingly global ambitions at the same time. 34 Külügyi Szemle
