integration is a political reality, with a core group of countries that are ready to move towards economic and political federalism.

This article discusses some of the issues relevant to the question of European economic and political federalism. It touches upon the issue whether the historical experience of the United States can serve as a model or at least whether there are elements in the US federal setup that are comparable to the EU reality. The political consequences of the euro crisis as a key driver for a possible stronger unity deserve special attention. The article also discusses some of the recently announced major political programs.
