Az Európai Unió bizalmi válsága Résumé Crisis of Confidence in the European Union, Particularly in the Expansion Policy The European Union and its member states are without doubt in a multilevel - economical, political and confidence - crisis. This paper focuses on the latter and based on various surveys, reckons that the trust of the European citizens in the European Union and in its problem-solving capacity is continuously decreasing. Paradoxically, this crisis of confidence is stronger in the old member states, although the benefits of the European integration are more numerous there. The trust in European institutions is somewhat stronger in the new member states. This overall crisis of confidence also has consequences for the enlargement of the European Union, supposedly one of the most successful policies of the Union. In this regard, Europe can be divided into three regions: a very sceptical core-Europe, a less sceptic, more open Southern periphery, and a mainly pro-enlargement Eastern Europe. However, the number of citizens supporting further enlargement is steadily decreasing in all three regions. What is more, the most important power brokers in the EU, Germany and France, are firmly in the sceptical camp. These all point to the possibility that, after the accession of Croatia, the enlargement of the EU will probably grind to a halt for the next couple of years. 2012. tél 185
