Résumé Ukraine's Place in Europe and Two Decades of Hungarian-Ukrainian Relations When a reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded in 1986, and the Soviet leadership kept it secret for days, it became clear that the newly announced Soviet policy wasn't working. However, the explosion, which still has its consequences today, has given impetus to actual political change. The study follows the domestic policy events and international relations of a post-Soviet state, Europe's second largest country, with a special focus on Hungarian-Ukrainian relations from 1991 to 2012. Minority issues are shown through discourses that define Ukrainian society, thus allowing the introduction and analysis of cleavages. Realpolitik considerations, especially in reflection of the results of the general elections in October 2012, allow for the conclusion that the possibility of an EU-Ukraine partnership agreement doesn't only have symbolic meaning, but would bring seemingly insolvable conflicts on the European stage, whose consequences, if circumstances remain unchanged, are unforeseeable today. 2012. tél 123
