2012 / 4. szám - MAGYARORSZÁG ÉS SZOMSZÉDAI - Illyés Gergely - Kántor Zoltán: Románia 1989 után

Illyés Gergely - Kántor Zoltán Résumé Romania after 1989 More than two decades after the regime change in Romania, the thinking of the political elite is dominated by the idea of a unified nation-state; we still cannot speak about a consolidated party system, and - in spite of the accession to the EU - the joining to the Schengen zone is still pending. The Hungarian-issue - although it has improved compared to the early nineties - is still unresolved; either thinking about collective rights or autonomy, but we could also mention the old grievances of the Hungarians in Romania: the absence of a state-supported, independent Hungarian university or the shortcomings concerning the minority language usage. The internal conflicts of the Hungarians in Romania have become acute on the issue of minority, and there is little chance of a compromise between the RMDSZ and its Hungarian rivals in the near future. It is true, that the RMDSZ has weakened, but it has not brought the significant strengthening of its competitors. 98 Külügyi Szemle
