A magyar-osztrák kapcsolatok fejlődése Résumé The Development of the Austro-Hungarian Relations since the Regime Change, Its Current Situation and Perspectives The Hungarian-Austrian relations play an outstanding role for both countries in their international economic, political, cultural and regional relations, as well as in their relationships within the EU. More than half of the total foreign trade of Austria directs to the Central European neighbouring countries. Hungary is the fourth country of the Central European export destinations of Austria, after Germany, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. The Austrian-owned foreign companies settled mainly in the Central European region. The most Austrian-owned companies function in Hungary after Germany and the Czech Republic. The Austro-Hungarian capital relations have been built up significantly since the regime change. The Austrian FDI exports play an important role in the investments in Hungary. The chief advantages in the Austro-Hungarian economic relations for the Austrians are: 1) the positive ratio of productivity compared to the unit cost, i.e. the higher profitability than at home; 2) they can constantly get significant export revenue on the Hungarian market; 3) those part of the products of the Austrian companies operating in Hungary that are transported back to Austria improve their sales and profitability on their domestic markets as well. For Hungary, the main advantages can be seen - besides foreign trade - in the fields of the Austrian investments, technology imports, foreign direct investment and job creation. The double dimensions of regional cooperation are: the bilateral and the regional Central European aspect. In the current global economic and European situation, it is of great importance for Central Europe to become a stable region, and thus to become appreciated in the midst of the Southern European instability. Regional cooperation has resulted in important effects in Hungarian-Austrian relations. The regional partnership policy has de facto appreciated the relations of Austria and Hungary towards each other and towards other Central European countries, in practice. 2012. tél 37
