Résumé Generals in the Crossfire - Myanmar at the Point of Intersection of the Asian Great-Power Games The Sino-Indian strategic competition is one of the most exciting themes in the modern Asian political studies. The rivalry for dominance in Southeast Asia and the Northern Indian Ocean region is one of the great contests in the 21st century. At stake for the two major Asian powers is not just the dominance over these territories, but the access to the major routes of the continent's sea trade, and the primary sources of the hydrocarbon energy carriers, too. In the Western world, Myanmar is probably the least known Southeast Asian state. The country known formerly as Burma has been living in relative isolation since the 1988 military coup. Therefore, the Burmese regime has depended on its neighbours' support. Today, the Southeast Asian country is one of the primary 'battlefields' for the two giants' geopolitical ambitions. Nevertheless, Myanmar is only a pawn on this chessboard. This study aims at presenting Myanmar's role in the Indian and Chinese powerbuilding, and the Burmese government's relevant possibilities and options. 2012. ősz 187
