Nagy Lilla □ Erősség □ Lehetőség ■ Gyengeség ■ Veszély □ Nincs véleménye Résumé The EU Presidency and the Public Image of Hungary The first days and weeks of the Hungarian rotating presidency have shown to what extent countries assuming the duties of the EU presidency are followed and investigated by all interested observers. During the first six months of 2011 Hungary will have the chance to contribute to its international image, a possibility which nevertheless requires circumspection if it is to be realized. Positive country images are not created overnight and thus continuous work is needed during and after the presidency term if results are to be achieved. Public diplomacy offers the means to develop such positive country images. It supports conventional "high" diplomacy by addressing foreign publics, channeling information and building contacts and partnerships in order to enhance international competitiveness and latitude. Our public diplomacy has to be based on a good understanding of our actual domestic and foreign image in order to identify issues and areas that may be highlighted in future communication. Based on a Gallup study by Gallup Institute a recent survey of international communications professionals, innovation could become a central element of Hungarian public diplomacy in the long term. 26 Külügyi Szemle
