Résumé The Role of Latin America in Spanish Foreign Policy and the Impact of Spain's Accession to the EC on the Latin American Relations The key question of Spanish foreign policy was to establish real cooperation with Latin America instead of the earlier, frequently only rhetorical one. Despite the fact that certain Spanish governments emphasized the the Spanish 'bridge' role between Europe and Latin America, it practically became an important issue with regard to Spain's European integration. There emerged a new dimension in Spain's Latin American policy when it joined the EC, and it affected Spain's bilateral relations as well. Spain contributed to the improvement of the relations between the two regions with a number of initiatives during the accession talks and, later, during the European Council presidencies, and it directed the attention of the EU towards Latin America consciously. From among the presidencies, it was the Spanish one that treated Latin America as one of the preferential zones by harmonizing economic attention with the political cooperation. Spain advanced the development and multiplication of the Latin American relations within the EU's foreign policy, and it contributed substantially to the fact that the European Union has a common Latin American policy nowadays. The essay discusses the different approaches of the various Spanish governments towards the Latin American region, as well as the place and role of Latin America in Spain's foreign policy. It also deals with Spain's achievements regarding Latin America in the course of Spain's accession to the EC and the Latin American themes which Spain managed to put on the agenda during its European Council presidencies. Die Rolle Lateinamerikas in der spanischen Auäenpolitik und die Auswirkung Beitritts Spaniens zur EU auf die lateinamerikanischen Beziehungen Eine Schlüsselfrage der spanischen Außenpolitik war, dass sie an der Stelle der früheren, häufig nur auf rhetorischer Ebene erfolgenden Annäherung an die Beziehungen zwischen Spanien und Lateinamerika eine wirkliche Zusammenarbeit mit diesem Raum entwickeln will. Obzwar einige spanische Regierungen die Rolle Spaniens als Brücke zwischen Europa und Lateinamerika in einem höheren Maße betonten, wurde diese praktisch nur im Zusammenhang mit der europäischen Integration Spaniens determinierend. Mit dem Beitritt Spaniens zur EG trat in seiner Lateinamerika-Politik eine neue Dimension auf, die auch auf sein bilaterales Beziehungssystem eine Wirkung ausübte.
