Bishop Ahr Confirms 87-Year-Old Convert FREEHOLD — Bishop George W. Ahr recently conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation on 87- year-old Mrs. Elizabeth Barwell, a patient in the John L. Montgomery Medical Home here. Mrs. Barwell, a widow, came into the Church when she was 81 years of age, and living in Union Beach. Fr. Joseph G. Fox, pastor of Holy Family Church there, traveled to Mrs. Barwell’s home to give her the necessary instructions because she was unable to come to the rectory. For the past six months, Mrs. Barwell has been at the Montgomery Home. Sister Mary Nathaniel, M.S.B.T., of the Catholic Welfare Bureau, Red Bank, helped to arrange for Mrs. Barwell’s Confirniation after a “reunion” with the aged woman at Montgomery. Sister Nathaniel used to visit her in her Union Beach home, and after Mrs. Barwell moved from there, the Missionary Servant said, she lost track of her. Each month, a group of sodalists from St. James Parish, Red Bank, and St. Dorothea’s, Eatontown, accompanies Sister Nathaniel to the Montgomery Home, where they visit with the Catholic patients, say the Rosary with them, and give a brief instruction on the Gospel of the day. Sister Nathaniel’s reunion with AUSTRIAN COMMEMORATIVE COINS Five immortal composers— Strauss, Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner and Verdi — in 22 gramm gold and 16 gramm silver. Mrs. Barwell at the home brought out the latter’s interest in receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. She was instructed as required, but was unable to travel from the home to any of the parish churches when the Bishop was administering the Sacrament. When Bishop Ahr was informed of the situation, he scheduled a visit to the home to administer Confirmation to Mrs. Barwell. A brief ceremony accompanied the Confirmation, and Fr. Paul S. Hammond, assistant at St. Rose of Lima Church, here, preached. Mrs. Barwell, according to Sister Nathaniel, is the la6t member of her family and has no immediate relatives.
