1955 december 29. JERSEY HÍRADÓ GROPP’S Health Studio A Real Success Story Two years ago on Oct 20th a new business enterprise opened in Trenton, New Jer­sey. At 953 Liberty Street, Andy Gropp and his pretty wife, Gladys, started the Gropp's Health Studio and in a relatively short time achiev­ed a remarkable popularity, not only in Trenton, but in the Mercer County area as well, where people are now taking advantage of Mr. Gropp's knowledge and experience in body building work. Andy Gropp Our hectic life, expecicdly in the cities, causes us to neg­lect our bodies—we take on too much weight or, many people are working so hard and tediously that they have what the experts call an un­developed physique. Andy Gropp, who started his amaz­ing sport career as a half­back at the Trenton Catholic Boys High School in 1940, after a meteoric career in the field of sports came back to Trenton to start his Health Studio which was always his dream. Already many people of the City and Mercer County area are singing Andy Gropp's praises as he, as an expert, takes a personal interest in everybody who enrolls in his studio to participate in healthy bodybuilding physical exer­cise. Andy Gropp's career is certainly an interesting one, and since the American Hun­garians have taken a real interest in sport activities since the days of Ferenc Holuban, the legendary Hungarian wrestler, we are giving here a short resume of Andy Gropp's activities before he opened his studio. Getting back to Andy's career we find it a long and interesting one. After his foot­ball dcrys: at Catholic High he moved into the officiating field and became a baseball um­pire and fottball official. Then, in 1951, Andy was recalled into the air force. He was a member of the Philadelphia Branch of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. It was off to Spokane, Wash., for the Gropp family and Andy soon found himself busy as a radar bombadier-navigator and on his off days as a physical conditioning officer for the Fairchild Air Force Base. Won Air Force Title When Andy left Trenton he hit the scales at 175 pounds but when he arrived at Spo­kane he began a body build­ing routine that enabled him to lift his weight to 205 pounds. It was while at this weight that he won the air force heavyweight weightlifting championship at Ogden, Utah. After winning this title he was offered a professional wrest­ling contract by the "Swedish Angel” and although he deci­ded to refuse, Andy did agree to an exhibition match. While on the west coast the Gropp family lived in a house­­trailer and when Andy was discharged they moved south to Los Angeles and settled in Pasadena. He officiated bas­ketball and baseball games at such schools as Washing­ton State, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga and Central Wash­ington College, besides quite a few high school games from February to May of 1953. Trained Fortune Gordien While at Pasadena he be­came more interested in body­building work and soon joined with two others in opening a west coast studio. Andy claims that his system is the best in the world and will guarantee to put 10 to 15 pounds on the undeveloped physique or take off 10 to 15 pounds for the overweight physique. To accomplish this it would take only one hour a day, three days a week for 60 days. Using this system to keep at a physical peak enables Andy to retain a constant weight of 220 pounds. The Gropp family now num­bers five. Andy and Gladys are mighty proud of Drusilia, age 11, Donna, age 7, and Ronny, age 5. And Gladys maintains that she can retain her high school figure after having three children she can teach Pthers to also retain their youthful appearance.
