They are dressed in white uniforms —like a nurse—they have a cute little cap on iheir heads. While the eye takes in this pleasant picture, the ear is filled with pleasant music. At Ethicon through a large and very good loudspeaking sys­tem the workers are enterta­ined with music during the working hours. Ralph is introducing us to the forlady, a young woman, who lives at 64-Duley Avenue, Rt. 137, New Brunswick. She was with Ethicon over 2 years. She is performing an operat­ion at her work bench which they call winding, and she talks with great enthusiams about the working conditions. The third woman we talked to is Mrs. Elizabeth Kozak tiom 281 Grandview Avenue, Fords, New Jersey. She is also a "winder", married, and feels that Ethicon is her second home. New machines create new jobs—new opportunities. * ¥ * As we moved along in the beautiful plant from one de­partment to the other, we were able to talk with people in supervisory positions. The most significant remark was: "We are proud of the people who are working here. They are making our product what it is." * ¥ * The visit is over—but our thoughts are still with Ethicon. Surely we saw something beautiful, something inspiring. We saw the future. The fac-­­tory, the plant of the next 40-50 years in reality. We saw a plant built in 1941, which will be modern and good even in 1975. We saw what men, and management can do or, rather, create. We saw the iactory drudgery reduced to pleasant work; we saw a policy which gives dignity to the individual — creating an atmosphere which helps the body as much as the soul. Somebody responsible for Ehticon! Our thanks go out to the men who conceived the idea, to the people who ap­propriated the money, to the architect who put the drawing on paper, the workers who built it, the corporation who operates it, and the employees who are working in this beauti­­lul plant. Honfitársi tisztelettel, Kremper Ignác, a Magyar Otthon elnöke HIRDESSEN LAPUNKBAN Mrs. Helen Ellis. She has been with Ethicon for 15 years. We are introduced to Mrs. Eliza­beth Szaloczi who has been., v/ith Ethicon for 16 years. Mrs. Szaloczi lives at 15 Louis St., I New Brunswick, and although I born in the U. S. she still can speak Hungarian just as well as Mrs. Ellis. One of the nicest parts of the Ethicon plant is the large harmoniously decorated dining room. - It is like an elegant N. Y. restaurant with comfort­able. chairs—nothing resemb­les a factory or a plant at­mosphere. It has a large double picture window. It was lunch time—employees I came and ate here from 11:30 j a.m. We meet at one table a I group of women—all of them ! second generation American I Hungarians from New Bruns­­, wick and Middlesex county­­j We were talking with Mrs. I Elsie Simon who lives at 87 j Plum Street, New Brunswick, and learned from her that she i was with Ethicon for the past I 13 years. Mrs. Simon is man , ried and has one son in the j U. S. Navy. She likes to work j at Ethicon, where she has ! many close friends amongst I the girls. i At the same table we talked wiht Mrs. Elizabeth Stevens, from 29 Hartwell Street, New Brunswick. This is. her 11th year with Ethicon. She is as keen and proud about Ethicon as her friends at the table. We took a picutre at this table and went further on our tour. As we entered the other large room where they were doing inspection on the sutures and packing them, a woman dres­sed in white called our name. She was a friend of ours from New Brunswick, Mrs. Elizabeth Karabe, who lives at 9 Conduit Street, New Brunswick. Mrs. Karabe was with Ethicon over 10 years, and as she talked to us in Hungarian she praised the excellent working condi­tions. As we went further, we talked with Mary Grosso who was sitting before an interest­ing little machine which was sealing tubes with gas lights. "It used to be a slower operation," said Mary Grosso to us, - "but they designed this little machine and now I can do almost twice as much work." We remarked that new ma­chinery perhaps eliminates a number of workers, but Mary Grosso, who is a very bright girl, had a good answer for us. "You can not stop progress". In 1942 he again enlisted as a private was commissioned in 1943 and was sent to Europe. He became a platón leader with the 87th Infantry Div. He served with the Intel­ligence Office, was discharged in 1945 as first It. 1950 saw Mr. DiNoia again in active duty. He was recal­­j led — and he served for 22 i months from this he spent 18 I months in Korea as leutenant colonel. I After his discharge re really . started to work in the behalf I of the embattled Korean people ’ whose . plight he witnessed first hand. First he was able to arrange to collect 5—6 ton ; of clothing for hornless child­­- ren. j Last, year in addition to his duties as Red Cross Campaign Chairman — he undertook to organize a large K-day drive for clothing. The campaign one of the most successfull in the U. S. mobilized 3000 men and 200 trucks .More than 100,000 pounds was collected — the clothing was sent to N. Y. in 5 large trailer trucks. Mr. Jack DiNoia studied his law with Rutgers in 1946 was admitted to he bar 1950. He is married, his wife is the former Ethel May Dreher, the couple has two children Dean Lynn, 8 and John Barry 7. Édesapja John Ungaro, Sr. — magyar lányt vett fele­ségül Mary Vanicskót, aki Bu­dapesten született. így John még ma is elég jól beszél ma­gyarul, holott ő itt született és nevelkedett Trentonban. Mr. Ungaro több mint 5 éven át managere volt a trentoni tűz­oltóság ifjúsági baseball csa­patának, amely szép sikerrel szerepelt a Recreation Service csoportban. John R. Ungaro 3 ló éven át szolgálta az Egyesült Államo­kat a Marine Corp. keretében — mint őrmester szerelt le, 1946-ban. Résztvett sok ütközet­ben, D-day alkalmával Oki­nawa szigetén volt. John . nős, felesége a volt Phyllis Martin, a házaspárnak e<3y gyermeke van a kis Jackie, aki most 3 éves. John R. Ungaro sok ambí­cióval vezeti üzletét, ahol nagy választékban kaphatók külön­féle italok. A rendeléseket az üzlet kívánságra házhoz szál­lítja. Harctphivalókról, vala-. mint hűsítőkről az előkészítő bizottság gondoskodik. Úgy a tagok, mint azok családjai és barátaik szívélyesen vannak meghiva és szeretettel lesznek j fogadva.
