Ohio became Hungary’s partner in the Partnership for Peace program and as Hungary ascended to full NATO membership. From calling for Kossuth’s freedom in 1852 to nurturing Hungarian civic and military evolution into a member of the western community of democratic nations, Ohio has played a critical role in the development of the land of my birth. Finally, and most importantly in Louis Kossuth’s message to the Ohio General Assembly is the ideal of the source of our power and the strength of our democracy. In that speech on Feb. 6,1852, Kossuth said the following: The spirit of our age is democracy... all for the people, and all by the people, nothing about the people without the people. Some 11 years later, President Abraham Lincoln, in more eloquent words, stated: “Government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth.” The two great men never met, but they represent similar ideals on democracy and liberty as reflected in these quotations. As this House faces some of the most critical decisions it must make in many years, it is right and proper to remember, and reflect on those words. As we vote on budgets, on legislation, on resolutions, that will have a significant impact on the lives of the people of Ohio, let us remember the words of Louis Kossuth from 151 years ago: All for the people, all about the people, nothing about the people without the people. Ludányi Anna Mária (Ada, Ohio) 2002. február 16-án az MB K vezetősége meglátogatta Cseh Tibort az otthonában és ott tartotta a téli MBK gyűlést. Tibort jó hangulatban találtuk, jó ötleteivel sok segítséget nyújtott munkánkhoz. Felesége, Nusi, finom falatokkal vendégelte meg a kis csapatot. Délután a Hanover Mariott szállodában folytattuk a gyűlést. Este volt a Reménység bál, amit a fiatalok rendeztek és nagyon jól sikerült idén is. A befolyt öszszeggel: 5,000 dollárral a délvidéki Kikindai Diáksegélyző Egyesületet támogatta. □ Február 24-én Columbusban, a városházán Kossuth ünnepséget rendeztek. 150 éve járt Amerikában és ennek tiszteletére egy igen szép ünnepséget szerveztek a columbusi magyarok, dicséret érte. Jeszenszky Géza Magyarország nagykövete tartotta az ünnepi beszédet, szép szavalatok, ének számok, gyerek kórus tette változatossá a műsort. □ Kazella Iginek és Évának két kisunokájuk született az év folyamán, András fiúknál kislány, Madieson, március 58 ITT-OTT 35. évf.
