HUVGAmiAM EiAMfCTFA©® AMI© AIM «TWH3IES PIOGM1-r„ PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY Summer Session, 1976 PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY (Portland, Oregon), in conjunction with its Central Euro­pean Studies Center, is happy to announce that it will sponsor an intensive program in Hun­garian Studies during the 1976 Summer Session. The program is designed to appeal to all individuals who wish to deepen their understanding of East-Central Europe, especially Hun­gary, and to those who wish to begin studying Hungarian or to perfect their knowledge of the language. OFFERINGS — Courses offered for regular college credit include the following: 1) First Year (Beginning) Hungarian (12 qtr. hrs.) 2) Second Year (Intermediate) Hungarian (12 qtr, hrs.) 3) Third Year Hungarian (Composition & Conversation,* 9 qtr. hrs.) 4) Seminar — Survey of Hungarian Literature (3 qtr. hrs.) 5) Seminar — History of Hungarian Literature (3 qtr. hrs.) 6) History of Hungary and Romania (3 qtr. hrs.) 7) Geography of Central Europe (3 qtr. hrs.) MINI-COURSES — This year’s offerings will be enriched by two mini courses. The first, on Hungary's world-famous cuisine, will be taught June 25-27 by the renowned Chef Louis Szathmáry, owner of The Bakery restaurant in Chicago. The second mini-course, a work­shop on Hungarian folk-art, will be held the week of Aug. 16 under the direction of artist Ja­nos Tokay, of New York City. DURATION — Language courses last nine weeks, others eight, June 22 - Aug. 13 and 19 re­spectively . REGISTRATION — Registration is made on arrival in Portland. Pre-registration materials will be sent in advance to students applying by mail. Letters of inquiry will be appreciated. ELIGIBILITY — Anyone at least of high school age is eligible to enroll, regardless of aca­demic status or standing. FEES — Undergraduates wall pay approx. $220 tuition for the program; a typical graduate student will pay up to $107 more, depending on the number of hours taken. Students regis­tering for Hungarian Studies courses are eligible to take any course available through the PSU Summer Session, Portland State has an unusually rich and imaginative summer offering that is nationally recognized, HOUSING — PSU students are expected to make their own housing arrangements.
