PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY HUNGARIAN LANGUAGE AND AREA STUDIES PROGRAM Summer Session9 197^ ANNOUNCEMENT PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY (Portland, Oregon), in conjunction with its Central European Studies Center, is happy to announce that it will sponsor an intensive program in Hungarian Studies during its 197^ Summer Session. The program is designed to appeal to all in­dividuals who wish to deepen their understanding of East-Central Europe and to those who wish to begin studying Hungarian or to per­fect their knowledge of the 'language. OFFERINGSi Courses are offered for regular college credit and in­clude the followings 1) First Year Hungarian (12 quarter hrs. credit) 2) Second Year Hungarian (12 cr. hrs.) 3) Third Year Hungarian (Composition and Conversation? 9 or. hrs.) 4) Independent Study (hrs. by arrangement) 5) Hungarian History (Seminar, 3 cr. hrs., also grad, option? taught in English) DURATION * The program consists of nine weeks of instruction (exc. history, eight weeks), from June 17 to August 16. The language courses are intensive, meeting three hours per day, five days per week. REGISTRATIONs To facilitate the best possible planning, applicants are asked to pre-register? regular registration will take place after arrival on campus. ELIGIBILITYi Anyone at least 16 years of age is eligible to apply, regardless of academic status or standing. FEESi Students pay a single registration fee of $185, There is no additional cost to out-of-state residents. The payment of this fee also entitles the registrant to take, concurrently, any other course offered by the PSU Summer Session. A list of offerings and other information will be sent to all those applying by mail. FINANCIAL AIDS A very limited number of tuition-waiver only scholar­ships may become available for qualified students in need of assist­ance • HOUSINGi Portland State University does not have dormitories? in­coming students are normally expected to make their own arrangements. However, a limited number of applicants may be accommodated in housing owned by our student association. Other housing is readily available in the Portland area. Accommodations, inc. meals, should cost about $110—$150 per month per person. For female students only, there is a well-managed, privately owned, modern dormitory facility one block off campus, providing single, double or triple occupancy, with three meals/day, linen and maid service, for be­6
