The AHF has received several grants from The Charles E. Merrill Trust to support an expanded exchange program between the United States and Hungary. In addition, a three year grant commitment by Johnson & Johnson has aided the exchange program and several other programs of the Foundation. This issue, in addition to presenting the largest number of book reports ever, contains accounts of the three largest exchange programs, those of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Science Foundation, and that of IREX. Although funding has decreased in recent years, opportunities for study in the U.S., Canada, and Hungary are still plentiful. We encourage our readers to write to these institutions for copies of their annual reports and for brochures about future opportunities. (We appreciate if you mention the HSN in your letter.) The first book report in this issue is on Andrew Kerek’s Bibliography of Hungarian Linguistic Research in the U.S. and Canada. We are proud of this addition to our HUNGARIAN REFERENCE SHELF series. You may have noticed the absence of reports in the Research in Progress column. In fact, there is no such column in this issue, mainly because we did not receive information about such activity. If you happen to know of any noteworthy work, please, do let us know. I would like to pay tribute to the many who sent us information for this issue, especially to Peter Bell, who contributed book reports, and others who simply let us know that they appreciate the HSN. Thanks to Kaimén Bognár, István Deák, István Gál, Endre Haraszti. Robert Horváth, Béla Kapotsy, Béla Király, Janos Miska. Apologies to Robert Blumstock for misspelling his name in issue no. 18, when we reported on his contribution to Public Opinion in European Socialist Systems.
