15TH ANNUAL HERITAGE FESTIVAL BALL TO BE HELD AT THE PINES MANOR EDISON, NEW JERSEY - Because the Hungarian community of New Jersey has been selected for honoring at the 13TH Annual New Jersey Ethnic Festival at Liberty State Park on September 15 - 16, 1990, it is important for Hungarian-Americans to help make the “HUNGARIAN TABLES” stand out tall and proud at the 15th Annual Heritage Festival Ball that will be held on May 5th, 1990, at The Pines Manor, on Route #27, in Edison. More than 600 persons are expected to attend, including state, county, and municipal dignitaries. Mr. Fred Weeks, now of San Diego, California, will also be an honored guest. Sponsored by the Heritage Festival Ball Committee with the support and participation of the New Jersey Ethnic Advisory Council of the Office of Ethnic Affairs, Department of State, this annual get - together of representative groups from more than 34 different ethnic communities in the State of New Jersey is being held this year for the benefit of the RED BANK, NEW JERSEY - Remember the little Hungarian girl from Sárospatak who was brought to the U.S. by her uncle to undergo major surgery and treatment to save her life, and how generously the Hungarian community in America rallied to her support? Well, here is a letter from her uncle, Mr. Thomas Pecsvaradi that was addressed to and received by the Hungarian Heritage Review in which he reports on her present condition: “Dear Friends: We would like to take this opportunity to give you a brief update about Niki and share with you the good news of her progress. On my way back from a business trip to the Far East in October, I stopped in Hungary and visited with my family. While in Sárospatak, I saw Niki, who is now 6 1/2 years old. She is doing very New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial to be erected at the Garden State Arts Center. The Ball will begin with a Cocktail Hour at 6:30 P.M. and there will be an Open Bar for three hours; a full-course filet mignon dinner; an interesting program of ethnic entertainment, including a “Parade of Dress” in which men and women attired in native costumes will participate; and music for dancing will be provided by none other than the Chubak - Kara Radio Orchestra! A model of the planned New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial will also be displayed. Admission is $40.00 per person. LITTLE NIKI IS DOING JUST FINE ! well, has grown several inches since her return to Hungary in August of 1988, and is enjoying an essentially normal life. One a month, her parents take her to Budapest for a check-up. Her progress is being monitored by the Hungarian surgeon in Budapest who spent three months in Pittsburgh while Niki was recuperating from her second transplant operation. It has been almost two years since her second operation on March 22, 1988, and the prognosis for a full and normal life for her is excellent.
