Delivered too late to be published in our January issue, you will find this letter, as well as the obituary which accompanied it, on the next page under “Letters-to-the-Editor ’ ’. We felt compelled to publish both. Not only because of the emotional reaction they caused, but also because never in our many years of experience in the publishing business, from writer and journalist to editor and publisher, had anything like it ever happened to us as a direct result of our endeavors. Above and beyond these sincere motivations, we felt obliged to publish the letter and the obituary because the unprecedented expression of goodwill extended towards us represents a very unusual endorsement of the significance of the “mission” of the HUNGARIAN HERITAGE REVIEW and an affirmation of our steadfast belief in its importance to the many American and Canadian-born citizens of Hungarian descent who have become its readers. It also confirms our belief that there was, and still is, a definite need for our particular kind of publication among those who can neither read, write, nor speak in Hungarian, yet are so conscious of their Hungarian lineage that they want to learn as much as they can about their heritage. You can read the full text of the letter and obituary that was sent to us by Ildikó Segesvary Oyler of Los Gatos, California, on Page 2. Both are self-explanatory, yet thought provoking. However, the Memóriám Card that was also sent with these, but which we could not publish because of space limitations, contained the message which reached the hearts and minds of all of us. For, among other information it contained, it also read as follows: “IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, DONATIONS MAY BE SENT TO HUNGARIAN HERITAGE REVIEW P.O. Box 2203, UNION, NEW JERSEY 07083” You will find the names of those who have responded so far to this message on Page 3 under “News Nuggets”. In heartfelt gratitude for this unforgettable gesture, and in memory of the late Irene Elizabeth Segesvary, we have arranged for a Memorial Mass to be offered in Hungarian by the Rev. George Pogány, the Pastor of the Church of the Assumption, in Irvington, New Jersey. PAUL PULITZER Executive Editor PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: We are in need of and are looking for Correspondent-Representatives in all areas of the United States where there are Hungarian communities. Generous commission basis to start. If interested, write to the HUNGARIAN HERITAGE REVIEW, P.O. Box 2203, Union, New Jersey 07083. FEBRUARY 1987 HUNGARIAN HERITAGE REVIEW 1
