IN HUNGARY THROUGHOUT JANUARY, PEOPLE HAD MORE COMMUNITY DANCES, BALLS AND OTHER GET-TOGETHERS FOR THE YOUNG PEOPLE THAN AT ANY OTHER TIME OF THE YEAR. PEOPLE DRANK MORE THAN USUAL, AND FOLLOWING THE ADVICE OF HUNGARIAN FOLK MEDICINE, THE BEST REMEDY TO ELIMINATE THE CONSEQUENCES OF TOO MUCH DRINKING IS TO EAT A HEARTY, TANGY, FRAGRANT SAUERKRAUT SOUP.
