LETTERS-TO-THE-EDITQR: In addition to our regular monthly subscribers list, we mailed out several thousands of free sample copies of our December issue to reader-prospects in the U.S. and Canada. This exposure triggered quite a number of fast responses in the form of letters-to-the-editor. Because such letters, whether for or against us, help us to blueprint improvements, we welcome them. You’ll see why on........................................................................................................Page 2 WASHINGTON REPORT: Buried away in a deep inside page of a metropolitan daily newspaper was a short news item about a New Jersey Congressman’s efforts to suspend Romania’s “Most Favored Nation Trading Status” because of human rights abuses too shocking to mention. Spotting it as being more that a filler of space and of special importance to the Hungarian communities of the U.S. and Canada, we went after the “story behind the story”. You’ll find Congressman Christopher H. Smith’s (4th District, New Jersey) response to our inquiry on.........................................................................................................................Page 4 NEWS NUGGETS: So many readers asked us to publish more brief items about Hungarians and their activities because they like to read them, that we have enlarged this particular section into two pages of news briefs from here, there, and everywhere. You’ll find this section on.......................................................Page 6 FEATURE OF THE MONTH: From time to time, we plan to run stories on unusual subjects of interest, stories begging to be told. We're kicking off this series with an article about one of the most incredible racing mares in the history of thoroughbred racing, whose record of wins has never been equalled or surpassed and who, to this very day, is the Equine Heroine of Hungary. See. . .Page 15 THE CULINARY ART OF HUNGARY: Because Hungarian cookery is of interest, or should be, to many women who are readers of our magazine, we donned our chefs hat and decided to include a page of recipes in every one of our issues from now on. If it will help some of our ladies to whip up some palate tickling dishes for their families, we will consider this another one of our contributions toward the preservation of the Hungarian heritage. Take a peek at .. .Page 21 THE WINES OF HUNGARY; It seems that, when we decided to publish a page devoted to Hungarian cookery, we got ourselves hoisted with our own petard. For what good is Hungarian food without washing it down with a glass of Hungarian wine. So, again, we did some homework on this subject and came up with...................................................................................................................Page 22 .... AND MUCH MORE COVER PHOTO: The cover photo was provided by Congressman Christopher H. Smith (4th District, New Jersey) in response to our request.
