Wendland (''Church and Revolution") and R, Shaull ("Revolutionary Challenge to Church and Theology"), as well as the "Appeal to the Churches of the World", 107) From the very extensive literature on this question, we refer here to two studies only: a) On December 5, 1966, the General Assembly of the UN adeed the General Secretary in a resolution to have a report drawn up of (l) the oonsequence of a possible resort to nuclear weapons, and (2) the effects of the acquisition and development of these weapons on economy and security. This report was submitted by a 12-member group of intern at i oral atomic experts on October 10, 1967, This document is the mere significant on account of the fact that it takes into consideration the present situation,. (The document is reviewed in the February, 1968, issue of Militia Christi, and excerpts of it are published in the March 1, 1963, number of Stimme der Gemeinde«) b) The problon of a nuclear war has several times been dealt with and assessed theologically by Helmut Gollwitzer0 The most comprehensive of his studies - Die Christen und die Atomwaffen - was publidied in the booklet entitled "Christlicher Glaube und die atomaren Waffen" (Evangelische Stimmen zur Zeit , Heft 1, Evangelische Verlagsanstalt, Berlin, 1959,) 108) See point 6 of the Report, - To be found in: "Appell an die Kirchen der Welt", — Dokumentejler Weltkonferaiz für Kirche und Gesellschaft, Herausgegeben vom Ökumenischen Rat der Kirchen, Kreuz-Verlag, Stuttgart-Berlin, 1967, p, 176, and elsewhere, 109) This recognition, first spread - as far as it can be ascertained - emong Protestant churches, has also taken root in the field of Roman Catholicism, Cf., e,g. , the encyclical "Pacem in terris"; "To consider war as a still appropriate means to restore violated rights is, therefore, contrary to reason", HO) World Conference on Church and Society, Official Report, Geneva, 1967, p, 1230 HI) The Autumn, 1967, Report of U Thait is very illustrative also in these questions,
