HCHP 1,15,-11,1,1958, Vol,X/l-2- 10 -10- We are aware of the fact that they do not like People’s China, In the elapsed 8 years, nevertheless we were building up our country and church, The World Council of Churches does not please our Chinese church. They want us to become anti-socialist and anti-communist tools. If we were inclined to do that they would give us a lot of money and help us. We are, however," indebted to God and our motherland in first place with our loyalty and not to the World Council of Churches that had done a good deal of things to make the Chinese church appear in wrong colours in the past years-. But those things did not make any harm to us, even more they hardened our resoluteness in building up our church and country further on,- In the past 8 years Hungary backed us in many respects, vie have come to express our thanks for it. We have to learn many things from you even on church line. We Chinamen might appear in our behaviour reserved nevertheless we are bearing warmth in our hearts and should like to make close friends with many Hungarian fellcw-past ors;- Now I am speaking in the name of our Chinese Christianity saluting you with the apostle Paul’s greeting: "for now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lóid" (I, Thess. 3:8.) EXCERPTS OP BISIDP J.ÁN0S PÉTER’S RESPONSE TO THE RESOLUTION" OP THE TRANSTlSCIÄil CHURCH DISTRICT RECALLING HIM We have published lately dealing with Bishcp János Peter’s letter of October the 31st 1956, that the Transtiscian Church District asked him in a resolution "to resume the burdens, joys and commissions of the bishop’s office upon him". On December the 20th Bishop János Péter made an appearance at the General Assembly and delivered a speech expounding the church’s events of the elapsed thirteen months with theological thoroughness. Then he asked for exoneration from the further service. Below we publish the most Important parts of Bishop János Peter’s lengthy response and farewell-speech. "Right Reverend General Assembly ! Yesterday in the evening hours Mr, Ferenc Erdei, Lay Curator-General and the Rev, István GaAl, Deputy Bishop called on me and rendered account of the yesterday’s manifestations of the General Assembly of the Church District by fair wards and passed me the resolution of the General Assembly 'which is a response to my letter I had written on October the 31st last year (1956) and handed over to the leadership of the church district, I feel ashamed after all of the fact that they, you, and the General Assembly of the church district have to deal •with my person so much. But I know very well that this is unavoidable on account of the affairs in which vie were together in the past years under the chastising and life-giving Word of God, we were together for the congregations’ sake and through the congregations for the people and nations. On the other hand I do not want to deal with ray own person, And even when in some parts my address seems to deal with my person nevertheless I do not consider it referring to a personal question. I
