HCHP 1.15,-11.. 1.,.1958, Vol,X/l' -2- 17 -17 Let me relate you a personal experience. My elder daughter was an undergraduate in Budapest in autumn of the last year (195S}„ blie was dwelling at the beginning of the Rákécsi-utj. in the neighbourhood of the Broadcasting Studio and the Hotel Astoria., in a state-owned students* home for girls« Every Budapest churchman knew that my daughter was there. " Hot but a sole churchman made any inquire aftor her not even once, She was not called on by anybody at any tiroej nobody invited her to one’s dwelling from the students* home in blaze neither one inquired after- her by telephone. If the'Debrecen collaborator of the Hungarian News Ageuoy h*d not thought one morning that János Peter’s daughter was in Budapest and had not offered that he had the telex of the News Agency inquire after ray daughter via Budapest News Agency. ihat was the matter with ny daughter then,, owing to our cut from Budapest, even I had been left without any news about my daughter till the last moment* *in the student’s home for girls But that is net all* |ti the evening of November the 1st ny daughter together with other school-mates were listening to the wireless Just when Lis slő Pap .was reading his well-known call for broadcasting. Her school-mates told ny daughber: ’Eh, let us go to demonstrate against this László Ravasz, Why, they use these days for these purposes?’ My daughter retorted: ’No, no, do not do anything like that,’I am going to call on him and try to speak to him’* On November the 2nd« when it was pouring with rain, and they were shelling, first She reached with much effort the building of the General Convent in Abonyi Street by foot« She asked György Harsányi what he knew about me® He answered nothing. My daughter asked him further where she could speak with László Ravasz. By that he replied in the Ráday Street, In the mean time György Hars Any x got a telephon message from the Tildy secretariat saying that I had resigned according to the message of the Debrecen counter- revolutionary council. One has to pay attention to the connections, my daughter asked György- Karsányi to allow her to ring up László Pap because she wanted to know what was about me though, But György Harsányi did not ring up László Pag, Thereupon my daughter by foot - I tell it again - went to the Ráday Street when it poured with rain said thei*e was shelling, She did not find either László Ravasz or László Pap, but she got a call-number and rang up László pap. She asked what was the matter with me? László pap replied that he did not know. My daughter asked furtlier whether he knew anything of my coming to Budapest ? Again, a ’no’, X do not know in how many forms this fno’ had been uttered but it is a. fact that all talks were so barren. I tell all these things now only to illustrate the quality of events through the character of me:. That did happen and it so happened ! During my bishop1 s service aspersions were cast several times at my person and activity, I never answered then in any circumstances. Let it be permitted row that I answer one at least* I am aware that you know that both here at Debrecen and in Budapest, in tlie General Convent insinuations were uttered about my alleged extreemly high and illegal inoome under my bishop’s service, Right Reverend General Assembly ! My whole post, the life of my family has not cost a penny to the Reformed Church in Hungary during ::y entire conventual and diurch~districtuai'~serviceu In 1948, I,exclusively arguing with the leaders of highest rank on my personal draft, could attain that the Reformed church for restauring got an emergency state-subsidy of 3 million forints, I always assured a subsidy under various forms to the Debrecen -Féterfia congregation which surpassed ny pastor’s salary there« Year by year I assured a considerably higher sum to the Tiscian church district and the Debrecen College over the state-subsidy
