-10-being too long between us, - yet we can still have a word about this with you, in good fellowship, teachers and students, parents and children. And we still understand each other. Do not be afraid, therefore, to pronounce the sentence over us; God has already pronounced it, and we ourselves have also done it. ' But how about the second part of Elisha’s answer, ' namely the request? Can you say that too? "Bet a double portion of thy spirit be upon me", looking only at us, you will hardly bring yourselves to making this request. But do not look merely at us; look at Elijah! Let us look together! And let us say together that we all need the spirit which enabled him to. make the journey which was "too great for him". But even that is not enough; let us "look unto Jesus, the author and .finisher of our faith" and let us ask Fim that His Spirit may be in us and in our work. And then, only then, you may yet look anrto us too, and you may askhihat Spirit which taught us not to. impose upon you, but to'ask you as to what we could--do - f ox you. I am sure, Jesus Christ will follow you on- your journey,— preserving for you, from the past, all that was of "Him and .giving all, from the future, that your life really, needs'. But note that Elisha asked for the double meaeu of.the spirit. This, of course, means that he wanted the , legal portion of the heritage that was due to .the first-born. It was a larger share than that of the other heirs. So Elisha* wanted to insure, for himself, the largest possible measure of God’s spirit. Such a measure of Spirit that it may, take fuUL.jiasaession of him. and prevent him from using it for'his ends or to adulterate it in order to satisfy his désiras.Let ,us ask for such a measure of Christ’s Holy Spirit that it may— prevent our mistaking our own words for Els Word and that *it — may .bring more fruit in our work than in the work of _the~ previous generations. Our inheritance is Jesus Christ. ' ^ To-day’s succession of generations is the purest"' •opportunity*to bear witness to Jesus Christ. We must’witness to Him in such a way that we clear Him of ourselves. At thosame time, to-day’s changing cl generations is the purest' opportunity to accept Jesus Christ, for what you are' taking over from us is nothing but His name and His life.
