annual amount of 5*456.100 forint is unknown and surprising in western relations. Besides the State also granted for single church Buildings, according to the actual need a support of several million forints /the church in Bécsikaputér was reconstructed with a State support of about one and a half million forints./ This year an amount of 750*000 forints were granted as extraordinary support for reconstruction. Teaching of religion is obligatory.Religion teachersare paid by the stated. Y7e have Theological Seminaries maintained as university faculties by the State with seven faculties for 8 4 theological students.

In the past year we held 60, this year 52 country wide and local conferences, for pastors, teachers, intellectuals, lay-workers etc. with about 10-15.000 participants. About 2000 certificates for half-price railway tickets were granted by the State for these occasions*

The Church in turning towards the world must first of • all ascertain whether it is permitted to perform its task.

It is a question of honesty and decency to acknowledge the fact, that we can not merely carry on our work fearlessly and freely, but also enjoy the support and protection of the State without any stipulation or condition.

COHINIUS MEMORIAL YEAR IN SÁROSPATAK

In 1950 it will be 300 years that following the invitation of Susanna Lorántffyt Comonius, the famous Czech schoinL- and churchman turned the college, within the space of four years, into the most excellent schoM of the country. A good part of his epoch-making works were written during that time. The college declared the following school terms as "Comenius year.11

The faculty of Highschool already sent out a committee to give a memorial celebration woruhy to the national, international and Christian importance of the great Czech teacher# Prizes are awarded and great festivals prepared.
