Hungárián American Coalition “HUNGARIAN AMERICANS TOGETHER” Summary of Presentations April 19, 2008 A seminar entitled “Hungarian Americans Together” gave an overview of educational and cultural programs of eleven organizations of the Hungarian American community. The seminar and discussion took place at the Kossuth House, Washington, DC. The seminar’s featured speaker was Professor August Molnár from the American Hungarian Foundation. The participating organizations and their representatives were the following: • Dr. Róbert Gábriel and Ms. Gyöngyi Pozsgai from the University of Pécs, Hungary; • Mr. Zsolt Szekeres from the Hungarian American Coalition; • Mr. Imre Lendvai-Lintner from the Hungarian Scout Association in Exteris; • Mrs. Andrea Lauer Rice from Lauer Learning, LLC; • Mr. László Megyeri from the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America; • Messrs. Zoltán Bugnyar and David Lantos from the Calasanctius Foundation; • Mr. Zsolt Szekeres from Hungarian Human Rights Foundation; • Mr. Balazs Somogyi from the Hungarian Cultural Society of Connecticut; • Mr. Zoltán Bagdy from American Hungarian Federation; • Messrs. William Bero and William Vasvary from the William Penn Association. Dear Reader: On April 18, 2008, the Hungarian American Coalition honored Prof. August J. Molnár, President of the American Hungarian Foundation, at a Gala dinner in Washington DC. When planning for this event earlier this year, the Coalition’s Board decided to hold a half-day seminar entitled “Hungarian Americans Together,” an opportunity for Prof. Molnár to present a more comprehensive presentation of AHF’s work over the past 50 years and share his vision on the future of Hungarian American organizations. We invited many other organizations, asking them to give a brief presentation on their activities, and time permitting, to exchange ideas on the future of Hungarian American organizations. During the seminar, given the number of presentations, we could not devote enough time to this important discussion. However, the participants agreed that a follow-up meeting to discuss the future of Hungarian American organizations should be organized in the near future. This Newsletter summarizes the presentations and directs the reader to the full texts of the materials. We will distribute the publication to all who would like to participate in a follow-up meeting, and also to our membership, who I am sure will find many interesting programs that can help them in their work to keep and develop our rich Hungarian American cultural heritage.
