CHANGES IN THE COALITION: Ilona Lang, who has ably served as HAC Treasurer since 1991, resigned her position due to her increasingly heavy work and travel schedule. Thanks, Ilona, for all of the hard work it took to keep track of our finances! We are grateful to Zsolt Szekeres, who has agreed to serve as the new Treasurer of the Coalition. Our Membership Committee has been chaired by Sándor Taraszovics since 1991- At our December Board Meeting there was a changing of the guard: Sándor resigned to be able to devote more time to his duties at the Center for Hellenic Studies. Thank you, Sándor, for keeping a close eye on the Washington Office! We welcome our new Membership Chairman, George Pogan, who will coordinate our 1994 Membership Campaign. After two years of administering the Washington Office of the Coalition, Julianna Chaszar moved to Budapest last September, where she works for the Ministry of Education, and does free lance translating as well. We miss her and wish her lots of success in her new life! Janos Szekeres, who is always there at the offices we are fortunate to share with IID, often fills in to take care of the Coalition’s day to day business. We all appreciate his generous assistance and unfailing good humor! President Edith Lauer’s continuing efforts in networking and fund-raising are being assisted by Csilla Myers, who has worked in Cleveland with Edith since September 1993. Her organization and administrative skills, as well as her excellent knowledge of Hungarian have proven to be a great help for the Coalition! Our most recent addition, Max Teleki, joined our Washington Office on February 1,1994. He will coordinate membership and communication, as well as formulate and obtain grants for special projects, and seek the involvement of college interns in the Coalition’s work. Welcome to Corporate Members As the Coalition grows, we are proud to have the support of our corporate members, whose participation is a vote of confidence in our programs. John Betchkal of GE Lighting, the largest single U.S. investor in Hungary and our first corporate patron writes: “GE Lighting is pleased to help support the Hungarian American Coalition ’s efforts to establish and maintain cultural, educational and economic networks between the U.S. and Hungary. ” Two other corporate members are Ameritech who is playing a major role in modernizing Hungary’s telecommunication system, and Ward Howell International, an executive recruiting firm who joined forces with the Coalition and Malév Airlines last December to underwrite the Threshold Theatre’s English language performances in Hungary. World Aerobatic Championships in Debrecen Summer visitors to Hungary: mark your calendars for an exciting event: August 1-12, 1994 in Debrecen!
