Hungarian-American Chambers of Commerce by Eryn Huntington and Helen Szablya, PNW Hungarian-American Chamber of Commerce The Hungarian-American Chambers of Commerce (HACC) are adynamic, growing Organization whose fundamental purpose is to further the development of business and trade between Hungary and theUnited States. The HACC groups were founded beginning in November 1990 and are presently recruiting individuals and companies involved in various aspects of international business, encompassing the economic, commercial and financial sectors from around the nation. Currently, HACC groups have been established in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Miami, San Francisco and Seattle. The Midamerican-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce (MHCC), representing business entities from the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin, was created to promote reciprocal business opportunities between Hungary and the Midwestern states. Several members of the board speak both English and Hungarian. The MCHH along with the other HACC groups has applied for tax-exempt status as a non-profit corporation. The long range goal of the Hungarian- American Chambers of Commerce is to provide the following benefits and services to its members. Please keep in mind that HACC is a new organization and some of these may be implemented at a later stage. Individual groups may modify these goals to meet their particular needs. □ To provide a U.S. and international business network to disseminate information about business opportunities among members and other business leaders. □ To hold business conferences featuring meetings with speakers on topics of special interest to the members, such as trade, tax, import/export regulations, visa legislation, etc. at a formal or informal evening, lunch or breakfast meeting. □ To provide information and referral of employment opportunities and services for members regarding importers, exporters, insurance brokers, trade show organizers, interpreters, etc. □ To publish a membership directory annually as well as a newsletter in which members may purchase advertising space. □ To establish a scholarship fund for American students who will be studying in Hungary, or for Hungarian students coming to study business here. HACC chapters can provide members with a strategic network of local, knowledgeable contacts, improve business opportunities and promote the development of a market economy in Hungary. In March, the MHCC hosted a very successful conference in Chicago, which was attended by representatives of the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and a delegation of experts on Hungarian commerce, including Dr. Lanos Tolany, president of the national Hungarian Chamber of Commerce, Dr. István Major, deputy of the Ministry of International Economic Relations, and Dr. Tibor Zselinszky, U.S. Desk of the Chamber.
