Mihály G. K. iskolateremben. Ennek a tavaszi táncmulatságnak egyik nevezetessége az lesz, hogy azon a Kára Testvérek hires zenekara fog muzsikálni, ami már egy­magában is a siker teljes bizto­sítéka. Csak át-Károlyi Gyula hangversenye a Carnegie Hall-ban A new yorki* lapok már jelen­tették, hogy Károlyi Gyula, a ki­tűnő magyar zongoraművész megérkezett az Egyesült Álla­mokba és rövidesen az amerikai közönség előtt is bemutatkozik. Amint mos tértesülünk, Károlyi Gyula, akit még röviddel ezelőtt az európai hangversenydobogó­kon ünnepeltek, április 4-én este fél 9 órai kezdettel a new yorki Carnegie Hall-ban lép fel elő­ször. Károlyi már gyermekkorában feltűnt rendkívüli tehetségével és 12 éves volt, amikor először szerepelt zenekarral Budapes­ten. 15 éves korában Saljapin­­nal, a világhírű énekessel Ang­liában turnézott nagy sikerek­kel. A londoni Albert Hall-ban 11,000 ember előtt játszott. Mű­vészi karrierjének állomásai az összes európai zenei metropoli­sok voltak, ahol a nagy lapok ze­nekritikusai csak legnagyobb el­ismeréssel Írtak a magyar mű­vész kimagasló felkészültségé­ről és tudásáról. Varró Margit, Max Pauer, Pembaur, Cortot és Dohnányi voltak mesterei, akik méltán le­hetnek büszkék tanítványukra, mert Károlyi már 1929-ben Ber­linben a Mendelssohn állami di­jat, majd később 1931-ben Drez­dában a Bliithner dijat, 1932- ben Varsóban a Chopin dijat, majd 1933-ban Budapesten a Liszt dijat és ugyanebben az év­ben Bécsben a nemzetközi zon­goraverseny diját nyerte el. Ilyen előzmények után nem­csak a zeneértő közönség, hanem minden magyar ember is nagy várakozással tekint Károlyi Gyula első new yorki szereplése elé, amelyet a Columbia Artists Management rendez. Az amerikai magyarság büsz­kén várja kiváló honfitársának new yorki fellépéést, amelyre jegyek a Carnegie Hall pénztá­ránál, a Steinway Hall pénztá­ránál (113 West 57th Street, N. Y. C.) már kaphatók. megyek ide a tenniszpályára. Még egyszer ki kell mérnem a pályát, azt hiszem, kissé rövid. Addig pihend ki magadat. Ellinor gyanútlanul bólintott. A tenlerébe támasztotta fejét és maga elé meredt. Minden oly csöndes volt itt, csak az ő szivé­ben dúlt vihar. — Frend a bokor felé ment, ahol a báró rejtőzkö­dött. — Minden rendben van! Raj­ta! suttogta. Heinz bólintott. Egy darabig csak állt és nézte Ellinort. Aztán nsztelen léptekkel haladva a pá­zsiton a pavillonhoz ment. Ellinor nem nézett feli és nem hallotta meg a báró lépteit. Lin­­dcekben vélte őt, rossz hangulat­tal küzködve, amint hogy azt neki Fred mesélte. Egyszer csak előtte állt a báró elzárrva előbb a pavilion bejáratát. Ellinor fel­pillantott és összerezzent; az u­­tolsó csöpp vér is elhagyta az arcát. Felkelt és fenyegető mozdula­tot tett. Ellinor látta a báró sápadt ar­cát s a bádó látta Ellinor rémült tekintetét, de Ellinor szava gú­nyos maradt. — Ah, igen, tudom, még nem fejeztem ki önnek köszönetemet, azért mert megmentette az éle­temet. — Köszönetét? Oh, nem felej­tettem el, amit tegnap mondott, — hogy szívesebben feküdnék holtan a szakadék mélyén, mint­hogy nekem köszönje megmene­külését. Ugy-e igy mondta?
