Külföldi Tiszteleti Tag díjak átadása - Mitja Brilly és Franz Nobilis 81 The digital HAA is a combination of thematic maps and digital data sets, which enable the users to carry out further analysis, to query and verify and to make their own applications. The complete HAA contains 52 map sheets and 70 explanatory sheets. • Printed version - The concept and the layout of the printed version of the HAA take the following principles into account:- collection of maps in a file with cover,- uniformly designed and high-quality cartographic map layouts,- maps with simultaneous readable explanation sheets,- main scale of printed version is 1:1,000,000; 1:2,000,000 is used for maps with a lower information density (format when opened: 668 mm x 420mm),- legends and explanation sheets are written in German and in English. A map sheet consists of a map section with header, the map with legend and an explanation sheet. For the representation of a theme, a map section can include up to 4 single maps. THE DIGITAL HYDROLOGICAL ATLAS OF AUSTRIA The software which is used to present the contents of the digHAA fulfils a number of criteria. The digHAA contains the information of the printed version. The menu to call the respective topics uses the theme structure of the analogue HAA. Since the screen modes have a low resolution, zoom lenses and moving functions are necessary. Graphic evaluations, tables and explanations which correspond to the maps can be activated by controlling elements on the user interface. The digital version is based on an especially developed viewer, providing the following functions:- presentation of the printed map sheets,- linking map objects with tables, texts and charts,- overlay of diverse themes,- original datasets of themes ready for user specific application (ESRI Shapefiles). When developing the user interface, great value was attached to an easy navigation through the atlas. Information about the present position in the atlas - spatially and thematically — is always shown. In addition to the complete contents of the printed version, a „Hot link“ function allows for instance, the graphical representation of time series. The ministry was the official editor for the dual atlas, Hydrographisches Zentralbüro was acting practically as responsible department on behalf of the ministry, using the Austrian Hydrological Society as vehicle for promotion, strategy planning and fund raising and the engaged project leader has been the Institute for water management, hydrology and constructive water buildings at BOKU Vienna (Prof. Nachtnebel and Prof. Fürst, www.iwhw.boku.ac.at/hao/. A perfect team for a successful work. A pilot study was done in 1997 and another one at the World Water Days in 2003: 24 maps plus CD-ROM with additional data and working material for secondary grammar schools as well as universities; 2005: 16 maps plus CD-ROM and 2007: 12 maps plus CD-ROM were presented to the public. Very fast a comprehensive work for hydrology was finished. In 2007 only 3 dual atlases were in use in Europe: Hydrologischer Atlas von Deutschland (HAD, Germany) with 7 chapters and 47 maps, Hydrologischer Atlas der Schweiz (HADES, Switzerland) with 8 chapters and 48 maps and Hydrologischer Atlas von Österreich (HAÖ, Austria) with 10 chapters and 51 maps. ACTIVITIES OF AHS Beside the abovementioned main project, there were a lot of other activities that AHS carried out:- (technical) excursions,- „Practice meets science“ Forum- seminars and single presentations (107 lectures given by experts from Austria (63%), Germany (20%), Switzerland, Croatia, UK, Hungary, Iceland, Slovakia, Netherlands, USA, Canada, Slovenia)- round table discussions,- „Young hydrology of Austria“ presentation series, - Werner Kresser- Award - promotion of e-hydrology (eHYD), linked even to HAA and mobile e-hyd. To present hydrological data on the internet, shortly called eHYD, is the answer for requested historical and actual proofed data. Therefore, the Ministry BMNT provides the webside eHYD (www.ehyd.gv.at/) and Hydrographisches Zentralbüro is responsible for the content. Further activities of the AHS- Setting up and regularly update the Homepage (www.oegh.ac.at) of AHS,- Providing information concerning AHS in the Mitteilungsblatt des Hydrographischen Dienstes, if useful (not regulary),- In addition: AHS as partner in a joint Hydrology- Seminar-Series organized by the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering at the Technical University of Vienna (Prof. Blöschl) and the Institute for Hydrology and Water Management (HyWa) at the Universität für Bodenkultur (Prof. Schulz) in Vienna.- Cooperation in the past existed: o national: Österreichische Bodenkundliche Gesellschaft; BAW Petzenkirchen; FBVA; ÖWAV, Ö1AV, Österreichische Gesellschaft für Geologie, TU Wien, TU Graz, BOKU Wien, University of Vienna, governmental administrations in the Federal Countries and o international: CHy (WMO), DHG, DVWK, HHS, IAEA, IIASA. o Some activities and cooperation of AHS together with HHS Hungarian Hydrological Society since 1994 were:
