ISTVÁN IJJAS is currently Professor Emeritus of the Department of Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BUTE). He was the Head of the Department and Professor of Water Resources Management. He earned his M.S. in Civil Engineering, M.S. in Economic Engineering, Ph.D. and Dr. habil, degree in Water Resources Engineering at BUTE. His present research fields include integrated water resources management, transboundary river basin management and water management in large, international river basins. He was President of the Hungarian Hydrological Society, Vice-President of the International Commission for Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), Chairman of the Working Group of Decision Systems of ICID, Vice-President of the Hungarian Environmental Council, Member of the Working Group for River Basin Management of International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR), Member of the Working Group for Integrated River Basin Management of EU WFD CIS, and he was one of the lead authors of the GWP’s „Integrated water resources management in Central and Eastern Europe: IWRM vs EU Water Framework Directive” Technical Focus Paper.
