Buczkó Abstract: Ecological investigations of diatoms in saline, alkaline lakes are scarce not only in Europe, but even in other continent, though they can be dominant algal group of the phytobenthos. 96 benthic diatom samples were collected from 31 small, shallow, saline lakes from two different part of the Pannon ecoregion to determine their diatom composition. Indicator species analyses was applied to identify species discriminating between the two studied regions. Accordingly, diatom compostion of the lakes of the two regions were different, and easy to separate them. The dominant species were the members of the motile diatom ecological guild, which was in significantly higher amount than the other two guilds (high and low profile). Their dominance is explained partly by high turbulance rate of the lakes, since low irradiance level favours this guild. Furthermore, the motile guild can survive under big stress, because it is physically able to select the most suitable habitat. This guild prefer mostly eutrophic and organic polluted waters, as these small, saline lakes. Keywords: diatoms, ecological guilds, indicator species, saline lakes. 1. táblázat: A Duna- Tisza közén és a Fertő-Hanságban található kis szikes tavak régióra jellemző indikátor fajai terület faj név Duna-Tisza köze FistuHfera saprophila (Lange-Bertalot & Bonik) Lange-Bertalot Fragilaria famelica (Kützing) Lange-Bertalot Mayamaea atomus var. permitis (Kützing) Lange-Bertalot Nitzschia communis Rabenhorst Nitzschia fonticola (Grunow) Grunow Fertő-Hanság Amphora libyca Ehrenberg Anomoeoneis sphaerophora (Ehrenberg) Pfitzer Cocconeis placentula var. lineata (Ehrenberg) van Heurck Cyclotella meneghiniana Kützing Cymbella cymbiformis C.Agardh Gyrosigma sp.
