A víztartási görbe hiszterézise általában nagyobb jelentőségű annál, hogy el lehetne hanyagolni. Emiatt ezt a görbét ki kell egészíteni egy nedvesedési ággal, amit a s w e víz belépési érték, valamint az előzőekben leírt _Z WS meredekség jellemez (lásd B-l. ábra). Az S, fő száradási (deszorpciós) és nedvesedési (adszorpciós) ágai közötti visszafordítható átmenetek leírására egy meredeksé­gü, párhuzamos vonalsereg szolgál. Ebben a tanulmányban a fő ágak meredekségét a száradási ág levegő belépési és reziduális víztartalomhoz tartozó szívások közötti szakaszának a meredekségével egyezőnek tekintjük. A nedvesedési ág víz belépési érték feletti szakaszát is meredekségünek tételezzük fel (lásd B-l. ábra). Az itt alkalmazott egyszerűsítések hasonlóak a Wheeler et al. (2003) modellhez.
