Abstract: Key words: IMRE EMŐKE SZENDEFY JANOS A kézirat beérkezeti: 2004 június 10-én Soil modification for river dykes and other earthworks with lime Imre, E. - Szendefy, J. This paper presents a review of the lime-related research literature. The review consists of five parts. Part one presents the various theories that have been offered to explain the soil-lime reactions. Part two reviews various laboratory classification tests relevant to lime-modified soils. Part three discusses various variables influencing the behaviour of lime-modified soils. Part four relates the outcomes to the change of the grading curve which can be characterised by the grading entropy. Finally, a summary of the literature review and a number of research recommendations are presented in Part five, flood control, soil modification, soil-calc reaction. a műszaki tudomány kandidátusa, okleveles mérnök, mérnök-matematikus szakmérnök, tudományos főmunkatárs, Budapesti Műszaki és Gazdaságtudományi Egyetem Geotechnikai Tanszék. oki. mérnök, a Budapesti Műszaki és Gazdaságtudományi Egyetem Geotechnikai Tanszék doktorandusz hallgatója
