The hydrological pecularities of the model area between Gyula (Hungary) and Varjand and Pilu (Romania), across the state boundary line Mihnea, J. - Kalmár, J. Abstract: Within the meaning of the co-operation program between the Romanian SC. ISPIF S.A and the Hungarian Geological Institute, we examined the natural (meteorological, morphological, hydrological, geological and hydrogeological) peculiarities of the model area, situated between Gyula (Hungary) and Vär^and and Pilu (Romania), across the state boundary line. The Romanian section of the model area, at left of White Cri$ river and Cri?ul Morilor canal, forms an depression-like, endorheic basin, with impermeable silty-clayey cove. Here, the pluvial and the underground water accumulate, forming some marchs and large, temporary paddles There is an extended drainage system covering 3745 ha surface, with 75,275 km main- and secondary canals and two pumping stations, having 3,5 m'/s evacuation capacity. The main environmental risk is done by domestically, point-like nitrate pollution in the downtown of the localities which affects the inland water accumillations, too. The pollution with nutrient supplies and manure, as well as the pollutant emission of husbandry farms have a minor importance, because the recession of extensive agricultural activities, here and in all of country. ISPIF S.A (i Institutul Geologic al Ungariei, am cercetat o arie-pilot íntre Gyula (Ungaria), Várjand Pilu (jud. Arad).
