n a number of deep wells in the South-Plains Region the iron- and arsenic contents surpass the limit values prescribed in the Hungárián Standard Specifications. These components must be removed for making the water suited to communal supply purposes. At the South-Bács-Kiskun County Water Utility Company the arsenic is removed by coagulation technology, using chlorine gas for oxidation. Experiments were made using ozone and chlorine dioxidé as oxidizing agents. The arsenic-iron sludgeproduced at the water works is classified as hazardous waste of Category I, which is disposed of by encasing it into concrete.
