2. szám - Benedek Pál: Biotechnológia a környezetvédelemben

BENEDEK P.: Biotechnológia a környezetvédelemben 71 Biotechnology in environmental protection Benedek, P. AMract: Biotechnology, the industrial ulilization oí tlie activity of the microorganisms had been allready adapted in the environmental protection by the biological treatment of waste waters, allmost a century ago. The eolid waste aerobic biodegradation (so called composting) can exhibit a similarly long history. Nowadays the biotechnology is extended to the fields of drinking water treatment and industrial off-gas purification, as well. Figure 1 and Table 1 show the interdisciplinary character of these activities which -— as a consequence — usually can not be dealt with but in a typically team work. This review intends to highlight several acute problems of the environmental and health protection to which — in difficult conditions — the biotechnology can produce a remedy. Such examples are the transformation of the inorganic nitrogén compounds to inert N 2-gas (Figure 2) or the biodegradation of xenobiotics stemming from the chemical industry (Table 4). In this decade the biotechnology has a rapid development in generál and in the field of environmental protection, respectively Kevwords: Biotechnology, Environmental Protection, Drinking Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, Composting, Offgas-treatment. BENEDEK PAL Szakmai munkásságának összefoglalóját a Hidrológiai Közlöny 1986. évi 4—5. számának 206. oldalán közöltük.
