Istvánovits Abstract: Enclosure experiment was carried out in order to elucidate the importance of nutrient supply from fish to pliytoplankton in critical summer period in eutrophic Lake Balaton. The water inside of enclosures seemed to be well mixed. The pH was the lowest in the fish enclosure despite the intense photosynthesis, presumable due to enhaced decomposition processes. Two peaks were recorded in primary production reaching maximum values in the enclosure with fish. In the enclosure with fish inorganic nitrogen content of water increased gradually till the end of experiment and ammonia constituted the greatest part of inorganic nitrogen. Total dissolved phosphorus changed with accordance of primary production and it increased due to pliosphorus excretion by fish. The presence and earlier studies may indicate the possibility of biomanipulation in Lake Balaton as an effective tool of water quality control. A decrease in biomass of breams probably would lead to the improved water quality. Keywords: breams, N and P cycling, Balaton 1974-ben szerzett diplomát a Szovjetunióban. Ugyanezen évtől kezdődően a MTA Balatoni Limnológiai Kutató Intézetében dolgozik. 1977-ben doktorált az ELTE-n, majd 1980—1984 között lengyel levelező aspiráns volt a lodzi egyetemen (Disszertációja címe: Contribution of bream, Abramis brama L., and chironomids to the nitrogen budget of Lake Balaton.) Jelenleg, mint az intézet tud. főmunkatársa, a halak vízminőségre gyakorolt hatásmechanizmusával foglalkozik. Tudományos dolgozata száma: 35. TÁTRÁT ISTVÁN
