Vegli Abstract: The paper overviews not only the activities of hydraulic engineer József Beszédes born 200 years ago but also early periods of the Hungarian engineering education. It summarizies the reasons for and circumstances of establishing the Institutum Geometricum. The first professors, the curricula and syllabi as well as requirements are shortly revisited. Számos irodalom- ós tudománytörténeti tanulmányt, életrajzot írt, szerkesztői tevékenységet is folytat.
