Corroding pipes may increase eonsiderably the dissolved iron content of water and thus water of lower than natural quality is produced from the well. Though, at high rates of pumping the dissolved iron content may drop nearly to the originál value in the layer, it may increase again expecially in case of outages. The paper of S. Karácsonyi gives a good example concerning such a case. Well No. 1., of the Mezőcsát water-works was built in 1966. However, normál operation was started in 1969 only. As the well was out of operation during the time of investigation, the yield (Fig. 4) decreased, whereas the iron content (Fig. 5) increased. From these experiences S. Karácsonyi arrived at the following conclusions: — besides local corrosion, the water quality alsó suffers unfavourable changes, -3,00 "V ^ Originál Stotionary water level -5,20 í 7i; 16 15 MES 8 7 6 16 15 1413 7 6 5 15 ti 13 Deep est drawdown 14 I % i I \A 2 3 10 H 1 2 3 • • • 9 10 11 I 2 3 • • • 9 10 11 10 -S7*0 /00 - Exploration shaft zlM A A7-W 3Z'Ál 0 B C -X7-5, 50 D Fig. 6.
