The Society was founded in 1917 with the intention of cultivating technical and scientific questions connected with water. In its name the term hydrology means the totality of all science branches concerned with water. The activities of the society are realized within the frame of the following sections and groups, respectively: 1. Hydraulics (Technical Hydrology) and Land Reclamation Section; 2. I-Iyrogeology and Water Supply Section; 3. Sewage Disposal Section; 4. Water Chemistry and Technology Section; 5. Limnology Section; 6. Balneology Section further 7. Hydraulic Engineering Group, and 8. Water Management Group. Besides lecture sessions and club meetings a number of régiónál and national conferences are organized by the Society in order to discuss problems of topicai interest. The Society has eight country groups as well. The number of its membership amounts to 1 500, its president re-elected for the period of 1904 to 1967 is DR. S. VITÁLIS, professor. The Society has — among others — standing committees for assisting in the work of the International Association of Scientific Hydrology (I A S H) and for promoting international relations. Publication: Hidrológiai Közlöny (Hydrological Journal), published monthly, with summaries in English, Russian, French or Germán.
