IRODALOM 1. Arany S. : A. szikes talaj és javítása. 1956. Budapest, Mezőgazd. Kiadó. 2. Petrasovits Candidate of Agrieultural Sciences Relying on empirical data and 011 those obtained from the literature the author established optimum groundwater depth values for various plánt groups. Owing to practical considerations from among the great number of involved factors only the plánt species, the clay content which represents partly the physical and chemical properties of the soil and the values of soil cohesiveness have been included in the evaluation. On this basis optimum values for the distance of the groundwater table below tho terrain surface were established in Fig. 1 for shallow rooted plants such as grass and clover, vegetables as 50 to 70.70 to 110 and 80 to 120 em in loose, médium oohesive and cohesive soils, respectively. For plants having roots at médium depth — potato, cereals, corn — the corresponding values are given in Fig. 2 as Ii0 to 85 cm in loose soil, 85 to 115 cm in médium cohesive soil and 95 to 125 cm in cohesive soil. For deep-rooted plants — various beets, peas, flax, sun flower, alfalfa optimum groundwater table-depths are according to Fig. 3 70 to 95 cm in loose soil, 80 to 120 cm in médium cohesive soil and 95 to 135 cm in cohesive soil. Optimum groundwater table-positions for wineyards and orchards are shown in Fi ff. 4, and the values are 150 to 220, 190 to 260 and 220 to 270 cm in loose, médium cohesive and cohesive soils, respectively. In order to obtain more complete and more reliable data systematical and aceurate experiments are deemed necessary.
