WOJCIECH JAKUBOWSKI was born in 1929 in Starogard near Gdansk. He comple­ted his artistic studies at the Fine Arts De­partament of the Nicolas Copernicus Univer­sity in Torun, under the supervision of Pro­fessor Jerzy Hoppen in 1948—1953. He works with two techniques: cipperplate and dry bu­rin etching. He has been exhibiting his works since 1953, presenting them at many one-man and collective displays both at home and ab­road. His more important awards: first prize at the national ex-libris competition for the Castle Museum in Malbork book collection in 1963, second prize at an international ex-lib- ris competition for the Eugenio Rosasco book collection, Domo 1968, first prize of the Ro­tary Club for his ex-librises at the internati­onal competition, Como 1968, honorary men­tion at the international exhibition of small graphic forms, Banska Bystrica 1969, the Alfred Jurzykowski Foundation in New York Award for his whole work in 1968, honorary medal at the Fourth and Fifth International Contemporary Ex-libris Biennales in Mal­bork. His copperplates, mainly ex-libris, were published in nine consecutive portfolios, each in 100 copies.
