We'd like to call your attention to 'Hevesi Mozaik', a series of colourful programmes in Heves County described on this booklet. The titles 'Pictures Of Heves County', 'Merry-Making In Palóc Land', 'Rendezvous At Lake Tisza' and 'Life At The Foot Of The Mátra' present attractive bouquets of programmes which, combined with the programmes in the countyseat Eger (like folk music festivals, demonstration of the peasant crafts, vintage processions, the Baroque Festival, classical music concerts, performances in the open-air theatre, sport events and fairs) give you a colourful presentation of county activities. This year we are offering new programmes to our guests. Along with many other sights, Eger promises its visitors an unforgettable respite with its beautiful 18th and 19th century monuments, narrow streets and encircled squares inviting romantic walks. Wine cellars dug into volcanic tufa, the castle calling to mind the victorious battle against the Turks in the 16th century and the world-famed mellow-tasting wines (Bull's Blood) complete a memorable stay. Those who like hiking are invited for an adventure at the highest point of Hungary, Kékestető (1014 m), and the hiking trails crossing the difficult but fabulous scenery of the Mátra and Bükk mountains. The quiet surface of Lake Tisza provides many exciting pastimes, swimming to jet-skiing, wind-surfing to boating, and fishing to peacefully watching the world of plants and birds. The rich stock of game in the hills (moufflons, wild-hogs, roe-deer, foxes) attracts hunting-lovers, as well. The slopes of the Mátra on which the warm sunshine ripens huge clusters of grapes in the vineyards offer an awe-inspiring sight. The mellow white wine originating from this region deservedly acquired world-wide fame. The village museums, peasant houses, historic churches and ruins of castles, which can be found all over the county, provide lots of surprises for those who set out to discover Heves county.
