Welcome to the

Gyöngyös Regional English Language Drama Festival!!

The Gyöngyös regional competition is part of an annual national English language drama festival.. This year other regionals will be held in Szekszárd, Ajka and Hódmezővásárhely. The best three performances from bioth the primary and secondary divisions will advance to the finals in Jászberény the weekend of March 25-27.

The Drama Festival began in 1992 in Hajdúnánás and Keszthely when two Peace Corps Volunteers recognized the the need for a practical outlet for students to use and improve their English skills. Building the confidence of the young people and providing them with a practical way to use their knowledge of English not only benefits the students, but the communities of the participating schools and the country as a whole.

Of course, the festival is alot of fun as well. Films, workshops, a concert, folk dancing and other activities help to round out the weekend of performances.

From 350 participants the first year the festival has grown to 1,600 participants and 100 different groups. In Gyöngyös this year there are 27 plays and 500 participants from all over northern Hungary. We have enjoyed generous local as well as national support from a broad range of companies and organizations. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the success of the festival.
