This easy accessibility makes it a perfect starting point for trips to Budapest or the northern areas of Hungary. Visitors will enjoy the typical small-town atmosphere and can spend pleasant hours in the restaurants and hotels of the city. The buildings, statues, fountains and park of the inner city present the histoty and cultural life of the settlement. In the 18th century the Hatvan estate came under the ownership of Count Grassalkovich Antal. The city’s Baroque church and palace are both connected with the highly educated and skilfully farming count The Hatvany family, helping to realize city-building and public health projects with generous donations, also played a significant role in the life of the settlement They promoted the development of local cultural life, as a result of which several artists visited the palace and the Nagygombos manor, including Béla Czóbel, Attila József and Thomas Mann. The city still puts emphasis on the popularization of culture, and on meeting the aesthetic and cultural expectations of future generations and those visiting the town. During a pleasant walk you should pop in to Győző Moldvay Gallery and see its impressive exhibitions. Lovers of visual arts can find several other exhibition rooms ín Hatvan. The institutions of the city provide a multicolour cultural programme. The annually organized events - the Expo-Fair-Festival, the organ concert and the 'Palace Days' - attract an increasing number of visitors. We can also recommend our Triathlon and Duathlon competitions to sports-lovers. The city's open-air swimming-pool as well as the quiet and peaceful surroundings and the protetted flora and fauna of the Artists' Camp and Leisure Center provide pleasant relaxation up to 90 persons. Our area has been inhabited since ancient times. Our Hungarian ancestors were especially happy to settle on the fertile plains of the Zagyva. The town of Hatvan and its region lies at the meeting point of the Mátra and the Great Plain. The settlements of the western region of Heves county welcome visitors with their characteristidy friendly atmosphere. The man-made environment as well as the beautiful natural surroundings give long-lasting impressions. Both youngsters and the older generation are attracted by relaxation, resting and warm hospitality. Angling, hunting, hiking and experiencing country living are all human expectations we fully accommodate. The mildly undulating and variegated hills are coloured by picturesque lakes in the vicinity of Ape, Csány, Ecséd and Szűcsi. The village houses of Boldog and Lőrinci presenting local folk traditions provide heart-warming experiences. The Ecséd Wedding, reflecting the customs of old times and the museum for writer József Bajza in Szűcsi represent the love and care for culture and traditions. The mementoes of mining, traditionally characteristic of the region, are preserved in the local collection in Rózsaszentmárton. Representatives of folk architecture and country mansions are worth visiting in Heréd, Nagykökényes and Zagyvaszántó. Petőfibánya, the outstanding mining settlement of past years, has gone through a revival. The townish settlement has found possibilities for changing its style of living and profile. The 'results' of viti- and viniculture on the volcanic hills of the Mátra can be tasted during cellar-visits in Ecséd, Rózsaszentmárton and Szűcsi. The outstanding attractions of the region are the flavourful vegetables, fruits and the deservedly famous melons of Hort and Csány. The unsurpassable flavours of Hungarian cuisine are represented by the Boldog dried red pepper and cabbage. We are proud to be the residents and hosts of this region. Ihr Standort ist auf die Kreuzung von Handelsstraßen des Mittelalters zurückzuführen. Die Lage der Stadt erweist sich auch heutzutage noch als günstig, denn sie ist von jeder Richtung aus leicht erreichbar. Deshalb ist Hatvan ein ausgezeichneter Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge nach Budapest oder auch nach Nordungam. mk y ■ Itt Die Besucher von Hatvan können die angenehme Stimmung einer Kleinstadt erfahren, die Restaurants und Hotels der Stadt strömen eine heimische Atmosphäre aus. Die Innenstadt vermittelt mit ihren Gebäuden, Denkmälern, Springbrunnen und ihrem Park einen Eindruck über Geschichte und das kulturelle Leben von Hatvan. Im XVIII. Jahrhundert gelangte das Herrschaftsgut Hatvan in den Besitz des Grafen Antal Grassalkovich. Aus der Herrschaftszeit dieses gebildeten und gut wirtschaftenden Grafen stammen auch die im Barockstil erbaute Kirche und das Schloß der Stadt Im Leben der Ortschaft spielte auch die Familie Hatvany eine große Rolle. Sie unterstützte durch bedeutende finanzielle Mittel die Verschönerung der Stadt und das öffentliche Gesundheitswesen. Mit ihrer Hilfe konnte das kulturelle Leben in der Stadt einen Aufschwung erleben und durch ihre Aktivitäten suchten zahlreiche Künstler, so z.B. auch Béla Czóbel, Attila József und Thomas Mann, das Schloß und den dazu gehörenden Meierhof von Nagygombos auf. Die Stadt bemüht sich auch heute um die Verbreitung der Kultur, um die Bedürfnisse der hier aufwachsenden Generationen und der Besucher nach Ästhetik und Kunst zu befriedigen. Es lohnt sich, nach einem angenehmen Spaziergang die Moldvay-Gyozö-Galerie zu besuchen und deren niveauvolle Ausstellungen zu besichtigen. Die Interessenten der bildenden Kunst können jedoch auch noch weitere Ausstellungen in Hatvan besuchen. Die städtischen Einrichtungen sorgen für ein vielfältiges kulturelles Programm. Die jährlich wiederkehrenden Veranstaltungen, die Expo, welche gleichzeitig Ausstellung, Messe und Festival ist, Orgelkonzerte und Schloß-Festtage werden von immer mehr Interessenten besucht Den Freunden des Sports empfehlen wir die Triathlon- und Duathlon-Wettkämpfe. Angenehme Erholung findet man im Stadtbad oder in dem Freizeitzentrum, das sich in ruhiger Lage befindet und eine besondere, geschützte Pflanzen- und Tierwelt hat In dieser Umgebung befindet sich auch ein Ferienlager für schöpferische Kunst mit 90 Plätzen. Petőfibánya, eine in den vorigen Jahrzehnten bedeutende Bergbauortschaft lebt wieder auf. Diese Ortschaft von städtischem Charakter hat Möglichkeiten für die Änderung ihrei Lebensweise und ihres Äußeren gefunden. Auf den Hügeln des Mátra-Gebirges, die vulkanischen Ursprungs sind, wird Weinbai betrieben. Weinbau und Weinkultur kann man durch einen Besuch der Weinkeller ir Ecséd, Rózsaszentmárton oder Szűcsi erleben.
